Test drove an MK1 Roadster yesterday, and thought I'd finally found the car I was looking for. (Thanks to all those who've offed advice and pointed me in the right direction during my quest.)
I was all set to take the plunge, then the Wife nagged me into being sensible and doing an HPI check.
When I drove the car yesterday the odometer reading was 117,000kms, so about 72k miles. THE dval have an odometer reading of 135,000 (presumably KMS) taken in May 2005 - that was the last reading on the data base.
Obviously that's a massive discrepancy.
Feel a bit gutted to be honest.
Any one got any thoughts?

I suspect that most of the imports have been clocked. Mine was, but at least I know by how much as I have the export docs. They have to fiddle with the dash for the mph conversion and the temptation to wind the clock back a bit will be too much for most of those doing it.
You can check the MOT records online to give you an idea of what the real mileage is.

Very useful for checking the MOT history if the owner doesn't have the certificates.

I'm sure there was a thread the other day that mentioned that HPI mileage figures are quite often wrong.
I guess you either keep looking or assess the car you found in terms of condition rather than mileage. No doubt you could use the discrepancy to negotiate a hefty discount.
On the other hand, there are plenty of 5's around, you'll find the right car eventually!
