Suspension re-alignment after work done?
Discussion
Hi all,
I suspect I know the answer to this already (probably a 'yes') but will ask the question anyway; My Mk1 is with the local spannermen at the moment (for a replacement fuel tank) and the work entails removing and then re-fitting the rear suspension and IIRC subframe. The question is; once they've bolted it all back together, will I need and full re-alignment do you think?
Cheers,
bt

Thanks, I realise it would be desirable, in fact it would be a good idea to get it checked on a regular basis (once every couple of years perhaps) but I am wondering if I really will need to. I guess I will be able to tell if the handling has gone to pot on the first test-drive.
Thanks for the feedback though

You can set the alignment up to a very basic standard using Plumb lines/string.
The figures and guid-through are all in the Rod Grainger manual.
This is very rough though and only accounts for 'stock' cars.
My plan when I eventually fix my suspension up is to bolt it all back up, set it up with string and drive straight to a Hunter Laser alignment machine.

If you put your postcode into this site http://www.alignmycar.com/ it will find the nearest Hunter machine to you.Link provided courtesy of Tony @ WIM (who is who I would use if only he weren't bleedin' miles away )

Does anybody know if Tony @ WIM would supply the fast road settings he applys so we could get it done elsewhere if required?
Suggest you drop him a PM/email via the WIM website = he is without doubt THE most helpful person I have ever heard of wrt motors and is very giving with his knowledge, even offering to discuss MX5 setup with a.n.other alignment specialist. Also if you search the web you will find recommendations on settings; miata.net and mx5nutz both have info' on these (don't know if these include Tony's fast-road settings though).
