since we're on the subject of steering wheels....

do short reach bosses exist? i have the seat back as far as i can comfortably, but still find my arms cramped up

maybe a lower seating position would help - can anyone over 6 foot heel & toe a mk1 as i certainly can't - my leg just hits the wheel

I can and I'm 6ft 3, but then I have fitted a smaller wheel, and it's slightly squashed vertically for more legroom. Also I suspect the Recaros help me to get further back.

i've fitted a smaller wheel and can heel and toe no probs - but if anything, i'd want the wheel a little closer to me! (6 foot)

I'm 6'2" have a MK1 with standard seats, and standard (nardi) wheel and can heel and toe with out issue.

I don't want to sound patronising, or like the folks in the advance driving forum wink but are you doing it right?

My leg doesn't really go "up" towards the steering wheel, my leg is out stretched as I brake, and I pivot on the ball of my foot and use the heel on the accelerator.

Maybe you could try a slightly different technique? I had to change my driving style when I first got my '5 as I was punching my self in the leg occasionally when using a lot of lock. You soon learn biggrin

maybe you're right, i first started learning it in a metro, so very upright driving position. Due to brake pedal movement i used to have to bend my knee slightly as i rotated about the ball in order to lift my heel enough onto the throttle. Good point though, it feels as if the seat could do with lowering but unless i can find super slim rails i may have to live with it and adapt

Funny that, I learnt heel and toe in a classic mini.

Near identical driving position that biggrin

When I was out in my '5 yesterday I was thinking about the technique I was using because of this thread, and I don't really heel and toe as such. I've got pretty big feet, so I can brake as hard as I want, and I use my last two toes to work the throttle.

I don't think the pedal spacing or foot wells are wide enough for me to do proper heel and toeing.
