The steering wheel on my mk2 is a bit worse for wear (and is starting to come away, internally, from the inner metal ring in some places).

Rather than spend £200 on a replacement wheel (if I want to keep the airbag) and having the hassle of fitting it, I though I might try putting a decent cover on it.

Are these all going to look a bit naff?, or has anyone found one which looks and feels OK?

Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new steering wheel?

I'd always be a bit worried about a cover slipping if I'm honest.

But if you're thinking of replacing an airbagged wheel be very careful it doesn't go off in your face... eek

I'd see if the scrappers have an appropriate wheel in good condition myself. Then get a local garage to fit it if you're not confident.

Try http://www.autolinkuk.co.uk/ and see if they have a MK2 wheel in good condition.

mmm, I have had this twice on my Mk1.
First time around I managed to find a OEM to replace it with.
I have tried to find another but failed.

Sooo.. removed the wheel and placed it up side down on a work bench. Through a Doctor mate some fat bore Hyperdermic needles and relatively thin syringes (all to do with force/pressure/area....) and large pot of Superglue.

Carefully and at an angle (along the line of the steel rim inside the wheel) I filled every 3 or so inches, twisted a little to help it circulate and repeated.

6 months later is it still holding fine.
I was thinking about doing this, but have been unable to get hold of a suitable syringe (can't find a metal tipped one in any of the DIY stores or the local hobbycraft).

Where do the junkies get them...anyone??
