I am the proud owner of a 1998 mk2, which I am absolutely loving.

I have a quick question regarding the correct way to raise and lower the roof.

At what point in the process (when raising the roof) do you put the tensioner bar thingey in place (looks like a puney roll bar just behind and over your head)? Is it before or after you have done up the windscreen clips?

And at what point do you lower it when putting the roof down?

Probably doesn't make that much difference, but I would rather do it the 'correct' way.

Thanks for any advice.

Do you mean the soft top frame? if so then this should be attached to the hood (as in sewn in). I cant think what else a puny rollover bar tensioner would be?

sorry if thats not much help

I think so, yes.

On mine it is not sewn in but can be folded down independently (although if folded down the roof is a bit saggy).

Is that not normal?

No, it's not. Are there any velcro hoops in the roof to locate them? Is it the original roof?

It had a new hood fitted approx 5 years ago.

To be honest, I can't see how it could be lowered without doing what I am doing (although I wasn't sure if I should be doing it before or after the clips).

I think I need to go and look at another mk2 to see if mine is different.
