I've found a MK1 for sale which I'm interested in. It's a 1995 UK spec 1.8 in red with black leather. Out of curiosity I punched the registration into AskMID to check if the current owner had SORN it or not.

It's registered but comes up as...

Vehicle: MAZDA MX-5 GLENEAGLES
Make/Model: CABRIOLET

I'm pretty sure it's not a Gleneagles, it's red and has none of the options associated with the Gleneagles. Should I be suspicious? Or was this just a common error for the DVLA at the time?

TFL have got it down as a 'RED MAZDA MX-5' which is encouraging, does at least suggest it's wearing the right plate.

I wouldn't worry - my mk1 comes up as vaious different things depending on what you put it into - TFL, Ask Mid and various insurance engines all bring back different specs.

Mine is an import though....

I believe that all Gleneagleses were Montego Blue. I wouldn't worry about it though, so long as the engine size is right it won't affect the insurance.

Probably. hehe

It would seem that way...

Thinking back I owned a car before which was sometimes listed as a different trim model with some insurance companies/plate checking sites. I queried it once with my insurance company and was told not to worry.
