i have a new found leak... The passenger side floor right at the back where it meets the rear bulkhead. The carpet is soaking, but oddly enough nowhere else is - the carpet on the bulkhead, the rear parcel shelf, the rest of the passenger floor, all completely dry... Even more odd is that the wetness doesn't feel like water it feels like oil or oat coolant or something... Checked the oil i carry in the boot and it's remained sealed. Most odd...

Check your hood drain tubes. That's where water usually ends up when they are blocked.

All I can think of is if you have the window a bit open (or the door for any period of time) and the roof is wet, water can run into the car at the sort of angle that would go between the door and the seat towards the area you talk of. Obviously if it isn't actually water, then my idea is scuppered, but maybe that is the feel of it after being on the carpet for a bit??

Cheers

Odd.

I'm really hoping for a warm weekend soon, I need to find out why my boot is doing an impression of Atlantis. biggrin

Sometimes water gets into the boot through alarm switches drilled into the boot opening.

if one were to fill their fuel tank up rather full, and go round roundabouts straight after... is it a possibility fuel is backing up out of the filler and leaking into the passenger compartment? and re. the boot wetness - leaking through the overflow pipe from the filler area to the rear wing that goes through the boot?!

still would've thought it'd smell pretty petrolly

I'm 90% sure it'll be hood drain tubes.

thing is though, i was getting a wet parcel shelf, so i rodded the drain tubes (the ones behind the seatbelt mounts) soon after the wetness disappeared and has since dried out

will rod them again but i would've thought the parcel shelf would get wet also if they were blocked

unless ones come apart inside the shell confused that wouldn't be good...

The boot on ours got very wet when the rain rail was cracked - water was running down the back of the roof, through cracks in the rain rail, and then under the rear shelf carpet into the boot. All sorted now it has been attacked with a copious amount of gaffer tape and the roof bolts have been torqued up in the right order.

Because of where they are the drain tubes are as likely to make the floor behind the seats wet as the parcel shelf - more likely I'd say.
Is it possible it was already wet behind there from when they were blocked before and you only just noticed?

Here's another question with regards to leaks.

The drivers side carpet is wet on my car, only happened recently - and it's only the front half from the start of it to around level with the steering wheel.

My drain holes are clear, that's the first thing I checked.

Any idea where that one is coming from?

Good advice - but I want sunshine so I can haul all the carpet out, mop it up properly and then leave to dry... it's quite possibly the rain rail but I'm never home in daylight!

Wet shoes?

May sound silly but it has been so damp/cold for so long, the damp *may* just be accumulating from snowy/damp shoes; are you in the habit of having the heater directed into the footwell? If not, give it a go for a few days and see if it dries out.

Do you have floormats fitted?

mine does this on the passenger side if i park it with the drivers side to the kerb or facing uphill on steep gradients. i think it is water leaking in from the front door rubber rails and getting in behind the door card and then dripping on to the carpet from bottom of the door card (door card got pretty soggy too). I assume its an issue at reasonabley extream angles where water over flows the side of the rail? Havent figured out how to fix the issue but it doesn't happen if i park with the passenger side door to the kerb.

long story short check your door card to see if that is soggy or dripping after heavy rain.
