Hi Guys

Sorry if this has been discussed before,

I picked up a MK1 V-spec MX5 late last year. Like most of you I had lots of fun in it over the winter driving as sideways as possible.

Its a great car and has put a big smile on my face, especialy when driving round with the sun out when it was -3 with the roof down (must admit I did have the heater on rather high).

Anyway, the roof is fine but round the top of the windows I get a few drops of water when its been raining, is this just the drainage channels or is it seals or something else?

any ideas?

hi i have the same problem on a Mk1 '95 Neo Green V-Spec. I found using electrical tape to bridge the gap in the seals at the top of the window reduces how much water gets in. At worse it wad only a few drips anyway

99% of the time its because the roof has shrunk (not obvious until you compare it to a new one)

You can try adj the seals, adding foam inside them to push them out more, adj the door glass, sealing the backs of the seals etc

And they may work for a few weeks but generally the actual cause is the roof.

I guess there is no way of strectching the roof back to its original size?

on a slightly different note, where is a good place to get a decent supercharger and air induction kit for a MK1?

Unfortunately not.

I sell used SC kits - there is a long thread on them.

In my experience this is exactly right. My opinion, for what it's worth, is to not bother messing about with the seals, just get yourself a new roof. Jack Smith trimmers in Swansea supply and fit a new canvas roof in a morning for £260. I thoroughly recommend them.

a little vaseline rubbed along the seal where it meets the glass will make it a bit more waterproof.
