**Warning Idiot Content** - Stuck Brake advice....
Discussion
Today has not been a good day.
Forgot I needed an onion so jumped into the 5 to nip to the shop.
Heard the brakes groan a little as i reversed off the driveway, thought nothgin off it the car has been stood for a while until yesterday.
Anyway set off and she seemed a bit sluggish but i put it down to lack of use over the last month or so.
Anyway 3 minutes later i'm stopped at the side of the road with smoke pouring from one rear wheel.
Yup - brake had been stuck on, i'd drove with it like this and nearly set the thing on fire.
Been back now and fethced the car home - and it was fine brake unstuck etc etc.
So when I get some daylight what damage am I going to find?

Your caliper piston is seizing up so you will need a new or refurbed caliper and new pads by the sounds of it (always do both sides) the pads will presumably be shot after having gotten so hot. You can get kits of new seals if you have the time/inclination to refurb the caliper yourself.
You also need to assess how badly scored your disk may or may not be; when you take the old pads out, check how much of the disk is actually being swept by the pads front and back and look/feel for scoring, obviously the area swept by the pads should have a smooth surface. If you need to replace the disk, again you need to do both sides at the same time.
This is a common complaint btw, and replacing the caliper is fairly straightforward, if that makes you feel better about it
