Anyone running, or know of anyone running a Rotrex supercharger?
Thanks

I used to have one - but not on an MX5. I can't help if you want mx5-specific info, but if its just general charger stuff, feel free to ask smile

Hi
Thanks for that. Which kind of car did you have the Rotrex on please? Did you have a stand alone ecu or piggyback, any intercooling.......and any occurrence of detonation?
Thanks a lot

Very basically they give more performance higher up the rev range.

Hence they are more suitable for larger engined vehicles.

They are gaining popularity as they are very easy to fit due to their size.

However an MP62 is better in every way IMO.

2003VVT. I think he's been through at least 1, may be 2 engines already.....'Powercard'd', non-intercooled, trackdays = detonation.

Hi Phil
But how much power was the 2003VVT pushing out? Kraftwerks USA state categorically that their 'base' Miata kit, which, on a powercard and without intercooling develops just under 160bhp at the rear wheels is good for track use. They reckon to have tested it with lots of track running.
There's a long thread on Miata.net about the Rotrex, with a lot of input from 949 Racing who are retailing the 'base' Miata kit (for $3200) which makes the Rotrex sound like a good proposition.
Thanks for the perspective on the M-tune rerouting kit which is also retailed by 949.

See from post 355 here: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=286952&... It's happened with FFS kits as well, blown up EU engines. The OE ECU probably has more aggressive ignition timing. I've never been able to run a 'base' turbo/super kit with no change to ignition timing even though that what's claimed in the US.

.......ah! I see. You're speculating that the European OE ECU is different to the North American OE ECU, and that difference precludes running FI in Europe without the timing being retarded.
So......how about a Rotrex with Zeitronix wideband, Emerald ECU, coolant reroute, PWR radiator and, when they've finished developing it, a KraftwerksUSA intercooler? I realise this would no doubt require tuning on a rolling road but presumably Emerald have tuned loads of turbo-ed MX5s before.

That's the way to do it, If your going to that level of expense id personally be looking at a BEGI turbo kit or MP62 and going for 240hp with headroom for more, I can't see what the Rotrex offers over those 2 options.

Look at what happened with the Cosworth NC kit - there are certainly differences for different markets.

I swapped a complete SC kit including EMB from a JDM car to a UK car of the same cc and year.

The fueling and timing maps were miles off IIRC something like 30% different in places.

Sorry, forgot to check back in.

I had it on a Golf Rallye - which has a huge intercooler as standard. I used the standard ECU, but it had a custom remap.

Great superchargers, but they are a bit Turbo like - unlike roots chargers or what-not.
