Hi,

I have seen a mark 1 mx5 online that I like. Unfortunately I'm in Nottingham and the car is in Gloucester and due to commitments this weekend I won't be able to go look at it till next weekend, being a complete novice with MX5's I was wondering if anyone who knows the cars well and is in Gloucester could check it out for me or let me know of a specialist nearby that could check it out? I guess I could do an RAC or AA check, but not sure if they are any good or worth the cost for 2k car

Thanks.

Looks like a nice car and probably around the right price for that particular model (can't remember what it's called - basically the JDM Merlot but being JDM it will have more goodies).

Apparently has no service history, so no record of a cambelt change. The drivers seat is also worse for wear with a couple of tears. Without the service history I'm not sure about the mechanical condition and I guess if it has any rust this could be an issue.

Looks good for the money on the surface. If you do buy it, I'll buy those wheels from you, I'm after a set like that for mine! thumbup

Wouldn't be too concerned about the service history, as it's an import so often doesn't come wtih the car when it gets imported. Best thing with these cars, is to look at them and use your eyes and ears. With a limited bit of experience with cars, you should be able to tell if it's been well looked after. And as the cambelt is a non interference belt, its not drastic if it goes. Equally not a huge/expensive job to have done....

Based on that advert - it looks like a good un. Of course, theres so much more to it than that...

Also - it looks completetely, 100% standard. And it has Pirelli P6000 tires fitted.

That tells me that its been owned by someone, perhaps, a little older, whos had it serviced on the dot, and had the tyres fitted that the garage reccomends, not messed with it, etc etc...

I'm very perceptive hehe

(that may well be utter bull crap).

As for seeing it - I wouldnt go out of your way to see it this weekend. If its still there in a week, fine, otherwise if it sells, i dont think its particularly some kind of bargain of the century or anything.

It's not totally totally standard - that's a later-model steering wheel.

But I agree - P6000s are a sign that it hasn't been thrashed. (And the FIRST thing you should change: they're not called ditchfinders for nothing).

I'll probably be down that way this coming week, but not in working hours.

I can take a quick peep for you if you like, but it'll just be a once over from the outside I'm afraid.

You can normally tell if the 46k is genuine from this anyway!

Looks a nice motor from the piccies.
