Hi all, put this up as part of a post in Reader Cars' but thought my new car is worth showing here to get away from the inevitable comments..

I picked this up just before Christmas for £1700. I’ve been reading these forums for over 3 years now so I guess it was only a matter of time before I purchased what is the response to every ‘What Car’ thread on here.

The RS is only 1 of 500 ever produced solely for the Japanese market and is regarded as the one of the worthshile special editions of the Mark 1 MX5’s thanks to its Bilstein suspension setup, lightweight BBS wheels, Torsen LSD with shortened final drive, Kevlar Recaros and a lightened Flywheel. This car changes direction like nothing I have experienced, there is no roll whatsoever and a quick dab of throttle mid corner will make you feel like a driving God.

Yes, another MX5 fanboy has joined the ranks. It does look a bit high at the moment but I am currently trying to rationalise why this little car makes me giggle like a schoolgirl more than the Cayman S I borrowed for a while.

Don’t get me wrong, I would take a Cayman over the MX5 any day, but is the MX5 more involving? I would say yes, definitely. There is something that feels just a bit too clinical with the 987 Boxster / Cayman, maybe they are too capable? Anyway, the MX5 means you can have the same fun as in other exotica but at 1/10th of the pace, and I think that is the point. It’s such and honest simple car and makes me smile continually

Thread will be continued as I have a fair few plans for this year.

I hope you like.

Ummmmm. Could be the pics but that doesn't look like Montego Blue to me. And there's no RS sticker on the wing.

Has someone transplanted the Recaros into a BRG car?

Ehhhh? Has it had a replacement wing? They were all stickered up at the factory in Japan.

That i don't know but there was def. a sticker on the hard-top instead of where it should have been. In saying that, its not the first RS-LTD i've seen with missing stickers.

Yeah I may be wrong, it's just those pics don't look like Montego Blue to me, they look too green! Might be the light mind. If that is a genuine RS then a) well done OP it's a bargain, and b) I deffo prefer the Satellite Blue on the R-Ltd hehe

Just interested buccal, how come you didn't buy it.

I was concerened someone has seen the car knowing what it is and not bought it, dont worry if it's anything bad I'll be tracking the hell out of this anyway.

Otherwise, the codes on the car match up for it to be genuine RS. Not that it matters much, I just waned it for the seats.

You're right Montego is a very strange colour, more green than blue. Looks just the same as this RS however:

I do agree with you though, there are much better colours but I thought this too good to resist.

Hi Ratlad,

I travelled down from London to view it on the Thurs or Friday first thing as i had twigged trader didn't know what it was.

Only reason i didn't buy it was i felt (no offence) it needed some tidying, and i didn't have the time or space at the moment.

Other issue was i was told 130km over the phone and arrived to 190K which put me off a bit.

Regardless, try finding another at that price.

Amazing bargain. thumbup

Not sure about this "1/10th of the speed" thing though... it's the pedal on the right you know. hehe

Well done RatLad! I myself bought an RS back in the summer, also from a dealer who had taken it in part-exchange and didn't know what it was. Sorry to rub it in, but I paid £50 less than you! I have spent a bit on it since mind.

Mine is also a bit high too IMO, I'm currently trying to decide how to cure that.

It's rare to find one with the Recaro seats as they are often taken out and sold - can fetch up to £500.

I've also been told it's rare to find one with the RS sticker on the offside - wish I could find some new ones as all mine are badly faded.

Another RS-Limited owner here...

Sadly I paid a lot more for mine, £3900, but it was supercharged, but I had it taken out and sold as it wasn't running right.

I actually don't miss the supercharger at all, it feels just as quick without it, just without some of the torque in top. Not really a problem as its not on a motorway much.

The OPs looks almost exactly like mine - mine now has the front splitter like that, and the same steering wheel, but it does have the RS badge in the correct place smile

Most fun car I've ever driven. My last car was a DC2 ITR and despite being ultimately slower, this is more fun, and actually feels just as fast most of the time (it wont be, but it feels it!).

Congrats on the RS, it is one of the most sought after models - its the same sort of weight as a mk1 1.6, but has the bigger engine, lighter flywheel, recaros and that colour which does look a different colour depending on the light. Wasn't my favourite colour but its grown on me.

Brilliant, brilliant car. Who cares about more expensive metal when these are as much fun as they are?

I can sell you a mint. I found an old polo in a jacket I haven't worn in years under the bed at the weekend...

I had some made up. Cost quite a bit, but it was the same if I made 1 or 7 to 8 as the would make a whole page. I'll bring them if we can get together
