Happy new year all smile

I was out again poking around the MX5 yesterday for an hour trying to get the heated rear screen working. I am still not having any luck with it.

One thing that did pop up was when i had a look in the boot - there were 2 connectors that are identical... one was near the aerial and only had 2 wires going to it (one side of each fuse in the holder bizarrely). I cannot see how this would make a circuit?

I also saw another one a bit further down nearer to the battery. This looked more like what i would expect - a fat red wire, a black wire and two others i think which would be in line with having 2 fuses conected in the car.

Can anyone confirm what should be going into the back of the connector for the 2 fuses for me please ?

This may or may not be part of the problem but we will see i guess. On another note with me utilising the connector under the aerial (with only 2 wires going into it) i get 11v or so on the ends of my 2 core wire (which is connected to the top 2 pins of the socket mounted on the shelf). As soon as i attach the lead to the window the 11v drops and i only get +0.30/0.40v???

I might be testing the fuse stage incorrectly but when i put my multimeter on both points of the fuse i see nothing for both the fuses in its current state when the window is active.

I guess first stop is to ascertain if i am using the wrong connector...This is driving me nuts as i could really do with that window working now !

Cheers all ! smile

Steve

SUCCESS ! biggrin

I had a quick look today whilst the car was defrosting and got it working.

I made a new loom last night from some 2 core just to be sure there were no shorts and plugged my fuse holder not into the connector under the aerial that everyone says you should do - but the one right next to the battery ! This connector has 4 wires going into it.

Once i had done this and connected my loom in correctly into the shelf connection (the daisy chained blue wire went into in the top left and bottom connectors, and the single brown in the top right) - it started working.

Pleased i finally cracked it - its gonna be a godsend in this weather !

Thanks for your help !
