My car has been neglected a bit over the winter and when I took her out for a run today I noticed the inside of the vinyl roof is mouldy all over.

I am guessing it is mostly to do with condensation as I don't think there are any leaks. Have been reading about the cat litter in a sock thing so will try that, but is there anything I can buy to slap on the top of the roof to help reinforce the seals?

Make sure the roof is treated well and properly waterproofed - not to directly stop the leaks but I've found when the roof is beading water off properly (mines vinyl) then less water 'sits' on the top and thus less soaks through the tiny cracks near the folds along the seams.

When its dirty it tends to hold the water on top more, and thus more seeps through over time.

I've been trying to stop and snow buildup too for the same reason.

I never did try the 'shoe polish waterproofing' on mine. Might be worth a go...

You can pretty-much seal the seams (most likely ingress point) temporarily at least with this trick smile

If you are going to try shoe-polish just make sure you clean the top properly first.
Use warm mild soapy water to clean it then rinse with clean warm water then dry first.

I still prefer to use the correct products i.e. Renovo cleaner & ultra-proofer.

My Eunos has been sat on the drive since November now (for the first time in 4 years I thought I would not use it in winter) and its been covered in snow for the last 3 weeks. I got in it the other day and its gone mouldy inside as well. The seats resemble an orange thats been sat at the bottom of the fruit bowl for weeks and my wooden steering wheel has gone a slightly darker shade due to damp. There is solid ice on the hood catches and all across the front rail! It doesn't smell too nice either!

Fortunately the guy across the road has his own valeting business so as soon as this white stuff has gone and I can get the car off the drive its going across to him.

I'm really missing using it, I can't wait to get back in it!

Anyway, how does this cat litter in a sock work? What do you have to do? I have a cat so should have some litter kicking about in the garage somewhere.

It works fairly well. It doesn't cure it completely, but certainly helps. Use silica crystal cat litter, and nylon/polyester type socks. I got about a kilo in each, one on the radiator in the house drying out, and one on the rear parcel shelf in the car, and swap them over every 3 or 4 days.

I've got the moisture out of mine by driving it, getting the inside hot to evaporate some moisture and then open the windows/drop the roof for a bit. Repeat as required... seats are nice and dry now and it's not steaming up either.
