Merry xmas people!

Dispite my trying to teach the misses to powerslide on sunday she has NOT got the hang of driving the mx5 in the snow. The idea was to instill confidence but i seem to have achived the opposite result frown

Because of this her MX has been sat outside for 5 days not moving.

When i came to it this morning the car wouln't go into gear with the engine running. I can get it in gear with the engine off, If i start the engine the car creeps forward with the clutch pedal fully depressed.

Cars a mk1 1600 1990

Any idea's?

Thanks,

Rick.

Your clutch slave cylinder is dead.

As above, it's probably your clutch slave cylinder. Lives behind the front right wheel arch, cost about 15 quid and takes about half an hour to change - but it helps to be a bit of a contortionist!

You could just try topping up the fluid for the timebeing , the res lives on the bulkhead to the right of the brake servo.

+1, had the same problem with GOK, the res' was low on fluid, so just try topping it up to start with..

When that happened to me it was a duff master cylinder but we replaced the slave cylinder as well, 'cos we weren't sure which was causing the problem!

Make sure you buy new items, you can get reconditioned ones and repair kits but it's worth spending the extra, if only for the peace of mind. Mine came from mx5parts.co.uk

Nice one chaps.

I'll give the res a top up, what fluid do i need to put in there?

If that doesn't work i'll change the slave.

HAs it really got nothing to do with the weather then?

It could have finally finished off the seals in your slave cylinder if they were on the way out, did it with my alternator belt!

Don't laugh but my actual alternator froze over the weekend !! I thought it had jammed somehow, took it off dumped it on the kitchen table intending to go get a new/reconditioned one after I had finished a few chores .Came back in a couple of hours later to finding sitting in a puddle of water and freely moving again smile

Few squirts of wd40 in it and fitted it this morning and all is good again
