Thought I'd share this story... because it's put me off trying to buy what could be quite a good example.

Found this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

So I contacted the guy to go have a look at it. He replied, just give him a ring. 2 mobile numbers on the listing. One didn't work so called the other. Different guy answered (understandable, two person trade business.)

He then said "Yes, that's fine. Come look at the car, it's in Chipping Ongar [20 miles away from my house]. Meet you there at 12:30"

text : "Hello mate, lots of traffic, going to be 15mins late" - that's fine, I left 15 mins later than I was going to

nearly arrived, another text: "Traffic's worse than I thought, going to be another 15mins late" - hmm... ok don't be too long... ETA 13:00 now.

I arrive at 12:55, I text him to say "i'm there" - text: "Grab a coffee, i'll be there shortly"

Looking around... no sign of a red MX5, perhaps it's in a garage or round the back?

Phone call "Hi mate, there's been a mistake, the car's actually in clacton. I think my business partner must have moved it and not told me" "What? I've just made a 20 mile trip here for you to tell me that???" "Yeah.. sorry" "Well where are you???" "I'm still miles away. Sorry"

So not only was he going to be probably another hour meeting me, he didn't know where the car was. It's a shame because it was probably the one I was looking for. UK 1.8, couple of easy things to fix and a decent price?

I suppose if he's that much of a muppet the car could be nothing like how he's described it. Infuriating though!

That one looked like a pretty tidy UK example for the money to me.

Yeah. I don't really care if it's UK or JDM, but that did look like a good one. It's just frustrating when the guy selling it is a total numpty.

I'm having trouble finding a decent one at the right price though, there aren't many for sale in Essex. I still need to test drive a 1.8 to see if I need one, because the 1.6 felt a little sluggish.

There are some great ones on offer from "Goodwood motors" up north, but it's so far away I couldn't just make a trip to look at one, I'd need to be going there to buy.

My, that's a horrible steering wheel.

I'd offer to let you test drive my 1.8, but it's a bit slippy out there at the moment. wink

The seller should really have realigned his headlamp covers before photographing it!

If you like the car use the buy it now and 'commit to buy' Agree a place to meet to see the car, have a look, make an offer and complete the deal if you want. If not, walk away and leave feedback depending on the experience you've had. The seller has 100% feedback so I'm sure he'll be very accommodating once his feedback score is at stake - sellers cant leave feedback.

...or you could just walk away and buy another.
