Hi,

looking for a mx5 around 2-2.5k mark, seems to be a lot of mark 1's at this price but think I'd prefer mark 2 at that price. Would prefer a 1.8s as I'm after A/C and an lsd, don't care about having leather seats.

Spotted this car on ebay, what do you think? Or any other cars anyone would reccomend looking at?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Thanks.

Looks like a tidy car with a good spec, the Exhaust and intake mods would have cost ~£700.

Also have a look on the mx5nutz for sale forum, usually some nice cars on there http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showforum=5...

It is not a mk2 sport. I'd also be wary of the cams, at the very least, I'd like *alot* more info on them...

How can you tell it's not a sport? I was a bit wary of the mods, but seemed like a decent car otherwise. Nothing wrong with mods as long as they have been done properly.

wouldn't be wary of the cams especially. they don't tend to add that much at the top and can make idle a bit lumpy but there's a few companies making cams for the 5, they won't be a bad mod.

Well it has no side-skirts, boot spoiler or front fog-lights for a start...
Also, I don't think they did the Sport in BRG wink

Thanks for that. There don't seem to be that many Sport's around, and certainly not around 2.5-3k

I don't think you'll find a Mk2 Sport for anything near that money. They are one of the best/most sought after Mk2 special editions.

How much would an early decent mk2 sport fetch?

I don't think there is such a thing as an "early" Mk2 Sport - they were a special edition (in fact I think a limited edition) so would only have been available for a short time.
Here's a good ebay ad for one (that has already sold) that lists the spec.

Looks like a nice car, but probably too pricey for me, had a look at some 10 anniversary editions and they seem pricey as well. I'll probably try and find a 98-00 S with air con.

Looks good value to me.

Edit: Ah didn't notice your requirement for an import.

what's the difference between mk2iS and import mk2 RS?

Sport also adds a hard-top, AC, the wood-effect stuff, front fogs and leather hand-brake & gear stick gaiters and leather door panels wink

I believe the RS had: Bilstein suspension, lightened flywheel, 6-speed. I've read somewhere that it had a higher compression engine giving a bit more power and throttle response but I don't know if that's true. It's a JDM model so isn't based on an iS (that's a UK model).

Saw this car aswell, looks nice but does not have air con. Been in cars without air con stuck in traffic jams in summer too many times and didn't enjoy it, keeping the hood down and breathing the fumes ain't an option either. Might have to wait a while I guess.

I saw a test once where they showed that open top cars (or even cars with the windows open) did have more fresh air i.e. less exhaust gas & pollutants than a closed car, even with AC on. They also showed that pedestrian & cyclists breathed in less exhaust fumes than the car drivers. I guess that's because the front of the cars drives straight into the exhaust fumes of the car in front...

if i get one, i'll do a comp check on it and see if it's any different to a non RS.

I have a 99 RS, its got all those things mentioned plus aircon as well. It also has a 7500rpm redline so would imagine its got slightly more power/higher compression.

Ive took the bilsteins off and whacked some spax coilovers and its great fun. Bilsteins and springs are for sale on evil bay !
