Headrest speakers - 1 out of 2...?
Discussion
+1 to that. You can unbolt the seat (4 bolts) and lift it out. Check it's plugged in and the condition of the wires. After that I'd try the back of the stereo.
A thought also occurs, has it ever worked? You could unzip the headrest to check the speakers are actually there and connected. They do die and make unpleasant noises in the process so they might have been disconnected if someone had no time or will to replace them.

Not sure if seats have ever been out. I only got it 10 days ago, and my friend is driving it so i only noticed when i went for a visit.
Will have a check for connections under seat first of all when i next see it. Couldnt see a zip for the seat at a glance. Is is just for headrest or for whole seat?
Cheers guys

Hi
There is a zip around the headrest which is easily undone to reveal the speakers. It is just under the ridge of fabric on the headrest. Each headrest should have two speakers (left and right). Each speaker is square shaped but they can be replaced by some cheaper, round JVC speakers quite successfully. (see popular mx5 parts supplier for more detail)
Alternatively, if it is the speakers which are buggered you could transfer the passenger ones to the drivers seat - if you don't carry around a passnger too often.
