Are MX-5s Gay?
Discussion
Now, don't flame me.. And i'm not here to troll
I work for Mazda, so obviously love the MX-5s.. I can't insure one at the moment but soon will get one!
I was out last night, with a female (Just friends and has no idea about cars..) and I pointed out a MK2 MX-5 and asked what she thought, and that I was going to get one, and she thought it was very nice and a sports car, which it is.
So are they only 'gay' to chavs who don't understand them and to other 'enthusiasts' who look down on them.. As imo, the general 'normal' peoples look on them is that their quite cool..

Those who mock, are jealous.
Those who know, already have one.
+1.Those who know, already have one.
what they don't understand is that while they're laughing at you, you'll be too busy laughing at the enjoyment the little car is giving you.
I loved my BMW (and Batty knows I drove her hard) however, I've never laughed out loud as much as I do when I drive my MX5 - it's not as quick, but it's more fun
Well I think of mine as male and I climb into it quite regularly so on that basis I guess it must be gay
No but seriously, if it's a bright pink car with pink fluffy dice and pink seat covers then it might be considered a bit of a gay car for a guy to drive but other than that they are way too good to be considered gay. I've never met or heard of a road tester that doesn't love them (I've met some of the EVO test drivers and they all love them and they are one of Jeremy Clarksons favourite cars).
The performance might not be great but the handling & feedback are absolutely 1st class so your stereotype gay hairdresser would probably be happier in a less involving car such as an MGF or Z3/4.
I've taken people out for demo runs in my car and scared them stless but then mine is a little modified

Do you care?
Those who know will understand.
Otherwise just get down with the kidz in a Saxo with 22" wheels (and sub)
Easy there.. I'm an MX-5 Fanboy too.. I drive them as often as possible, but insurance won't let me have one yet Those who know will understand.

I don't care, no. I think its funny when their called gay, its jealousy really
But, I was asking if their only called gay to those who say their enthusiasts or those who like to sit in Burger King carpark.
Indeed they are very gay!

I'd call into question anyones self confidence and character who calls the MX5 gay.
Its usually spouted by those people who like to pretend its gay but secretly wouldn't mind one - but just don't have the strength of character to get one and admit its a good car despite what people say.
To be fair its kind of a good thing anyway - they are not in the hands of the wrong sorts of people so keeps insurance down and are under the radar for the most part

Ooooh what a lovely response Fluffy Tuttle baby, completely agree, what a soooupper little car. Nothing better than wrapping up in a nice pashmina and a cosy pair of mittens on these cold winter nights and going for a blast with my top off!
On a serious note, while I've had a couple of tongue in cheek hairdresser comments when I've mentioned I have an MX5, most of my friends (admittedly they're mainly students) think I'm a bit of a pimp when they see the car and everyone wants a ride.
As far as I'm concerned the (ex) Kinkmobile's a right tasty little motor and if others think it's gay, so be it!

Yup, totally gay. Look how gay this one is in particular -
Quite a lot of people seemed to mock when I got mine. They were usually answered by asking what they drive...
"oh that's right your in your mid 20s and don't even have a licence"
Or
" how's the bus treating you, got long left on the ban"
or best of all
" Oh yeah, the 1.9 diesel? 5 door? For picking the kids up yeah? Cor, I bet that pulls like a train ....

Couldnt give a toss what people think , its an absolutely cracking little car and i love it to bits , either snicking the gearbox through the cogs while up near the red line or just pootling through town its a cracking little thing , if people think its a hairdressers car , let them carry on , hair dressers need fullys adjustable double wishbone suspension and a power plant frame . proper RWD car , dont get any of that in a BMW.
Yep very gay..
I get some comments, but my mates are in the know and its usually just ignorant or jealous people who say it.
Does anyone else have people at work assume that they are really expensive, that your a rich git for having a sports car.
People dont seem too understand that
A. they are good value for money
B. Cheap to run
C. Actually have quite alot of space for a small car (I managed to get a 32" lcd telly in the boot)
