In my '92 S-Special the current mirror is very weathered and has seen better days, have bought another off a famous auction site and am just wondering about fitting it, as mine has a cover on, under which i assume are a couple of screws holding the mirror on? any ideas how to get said cover off without knackering it...

Cheers, Phil

Not sure what you mean by 'cover'. Any chance of posting a pic?

Early ones have mirror fitted to frame above windscreen. Later ones are bonded onto windscreen.

I'll try get a pic over the weekend.

Its fixed to the roof, not windscreen.
By 'cover', i mean you cant see any screws to undo, it just looks neat. Cant say i've ever paid any attention to how they're fixed on before when i've been in one!

In that case, it should be a spring-loaded pin which locks it into the roof. The idea is that if you knock the mirror assembly, it will detach itself from the roof rather that break or damage the car.

You need to undo the big screw in middle to realese the clip. then you join two togother, then screw the bolt down.

? Why ?

You remove the plastic cover with a flatblade screw driver and undo the 2 phillips screws , which you can see the holes for them in the last pic .

You need to do it if you want to attach the yellow block to mirror.
