…and get the real thing !

I’ve just had a 6-point TT-look rollbar, in a light silver powdercoat to complement my red Mk2, fitted by Tim at TR Lane in Stroud.

http://www.trlanefabs.co.uk/default.html

Apart from the obvious safety aspect, my main reason for going for it was to improve the stiffness of the bodyshell and hopefully let the suspension do its job more effectively.

I was confident I’d feel some benefit but wasn’t prepared for just how much it has transformed the handling, ride compliance and general solidity of the car. I recently fitted a Gaz Gold Pro set of springs/ dampers, which are excellent but now I believe I’m getting their full potential. I’d go as far as to say that this is the best mod I’ve done, especially for the money.

The ride over our cr*p roads is perceptively better as there’s none of the usual flexing/ shake with its associated buzzy noise but it’s the all-round ‘planted’ feel that really impresses - even with greasy roads, I’m driving harder due to increased (over)confidence - sorry officer

Tim is a great guy with a real belief in quality. I chose to have him fit the rollbar but having seen the work involved it’s not beyond a capable person and he provides all the fixings needed and is happy to talk you through any queries.

So, as I said at the start, don’t go down the poser route with a style bar, invest in the real deal - you won’t regret it.

I now have a style bar for sale paperbag

I didn't know that T R Lane existed, and they are less than 4 miles from my house! I don't have a MX5, but my brother does.

Blimey, only 20 miles from Bristol.

Interesting in that they do exhaust fabrications...

mx5parts do a full stainless for 175, and a dual for 220.
i doubt they'd be able to fabricate one for less...

True, but I bet MX5parts don't fit them wink

Still, if I had a bloody drive, I'd have a go.

Pfft, its a piece of piss. The MX5 parts exhausts are superb value, really well made bit if kit, and they often have them on special for about £120.

THe TR lane bars look much more resolved now after the initial debacle about them - good to see a company that has listened to their customer base and now has a successful, popular product.

True but I've had about 20 exhausts and the MX5 parts ones - particularly the duals are stupidly loud - I have them on a car in stock at the minute and will probably remove them before sale as they would deter 99% of buyers.

I have a Magnex on my own car and its lovely, Mongoose is very good too !
(I don't sell either)

I keep on arguing with myself on whether to go to TR Lane for a rollcage. For one, I know it will make me want to take it at last to a track but still unsure on safety of it on the road. I know its obviously a lot safer in a rollover but not sure on whether I should fit harnesses in case of a rear end or such like. If you don't mind me asking, how far does it sit behind your head? Maybe I'm being a wuss and should just go for it.

I was given a choice on standard height that can be used with a hard top and a little higher that will work with a soft top only. I went for a little higher as I have no plans for a hard top.

Mine is fine too - the TT one I have means you can operate the hood one-handed as before. I'm having to do a simple modification on my Mazda Windblocker - next job after fitting some tasty Recaros to my Fiat 20V Turbo biggrin
