Last week, some knob reversed out from the side of me at works car park during the day and ripped off my rear passenger mudflap and rubbed the paintwork with their plastic bumper. Have no idea who it was and I got it fixed at weekend for £30 including other mods by my friend who also owns two mx5s.

Found another small ding in my door yesterday and I so want to put stickers on my car door windows to warn them. Something like 'Please do not park near me if you are going to ding my door' or 'Please be careful around this car'

Why do some people not respect other peoples property, I am always careful when getting out of my car next to others and I always park far away in a tesco car park away from other cars to avoid it.

Because most people don't care about their cars, so don't see why you would care about yours.

Pure selfishness. irked

I'd worry that putting stickers on the car like that would just act as an invitation to some knobs.

The only thing you can really do is park 'defensively' ie. as far away from all the other cars as possible (though even in a virtually empty car park, you will find other cars are magnetically drawn to yours) or at least next to a wall/bollard/path/obstacle so that at least one side of your car cannot be parked next to/is 'protected'.

Most people seem to try to avoid dings by leaving big gaps between their car and any car they park next to. I do the opposite - I park close enough so they have to be careful how they get in. The problem is, if you leave a big gap they swing their doors open so if they hit your car it's a big impact whereas if you park close they can't swing their door open.

My car has only a single very minor ding that's hard to notice unless you're looking for it. (I think being bright red helps too wink)

Park in disable bays/mother and child bays or park a fair distance back. The former may result in a ticket while the latter will mean you may get wet in the rain.

There is nothing illegal about parking in disabled bays or mother & child bays at supermarkets. You will get "looks" from people though and rightly so.

Whenever I've tried parking at the back of the carpark in an empty area, I've always found a car parked each side when I get back. They are like bees to a honey-pot laugh

Unfortunately, this was my first thought too.

My advice would be not to go with the sticker idea....

Yep, I think parking at the far end is the only option, and even then you'll still get the magnetic attraction parkers either side of you!

I went to the vets this morning to drop my kitten off for her op. I parked in the perpendicular spaces here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&a...

roughly where the yellow car is. It was 8.30am, and there were no other cars anywhere along the whole row. Popped in, dropped off the cat, spoke to the vetinary nurse, so probably inside for 4 or 5 minutes.
Came out to find a bloody vauxhall Agila had reverse parked against the driver's side door of mine, so offside to offside. WHY!!!????? Dozens of spaces, and they park there! AAAAAAARRRGHHHH!!

Get a blow up doll ( preferably not wide mouth betty...) and dress it up with a hat and coat etc. Sit it in the passenger seat and maybe leave the stereo on slightly.

Only the REALLY ignorant will ding the doors now....plus if you do park miles away people are less likey to want to park next to an occupied car for some reason.....

My mum was giving someone a lift the other day, waited in the car for them to arrive. Whilst she was waiting someone parked next to her, big bloke and his kid, kid gets out and dings the door. What can you do!? furious

Also people have been known to get fines for parking in child/disabled bays at my local supermarket, in response to earlier post - just a word of warning if you were thinking about it!!!

Supermarkets can issue fines but have no power to make you pay them. It's private ground so parking laws don't apply.

I always park at the far end of a car park and right over the white line so I essentially use 2 spaces.
As a kid I always used to hate people that did this, but now I understand why they do it !
Dings on doors feckin' cripple me - I'm not one for crying when it rains on your car; Cars are there to be driven and used, but not to be abused by morons with as much spacial awareness as Ray Charles in a Red Bull air-race.

That's really quite clever! No marks from people subsequently using your car as a 'door rest'?

Whenever I take my car to the supermarket I always park in the mother & toddler spaces, purely because they are wider, and if people give me funny looks I don't care, as they are usually the w@nkers that would ding my door!!

I've seen vigilante boxing in of cars which have been parked in these spaces incorrectly (ie. without child).

Generally people with kids take ages to shop as well so be prepared for a long wait if you do this sort of thing.

I assume you have kids? That's ridiculous, parking in an inappropriate space is considered more of a crime than someone damaging your vehicle/property!! Honestly...........

Yes I do have a child, he's great! but thats irrelevant to this because :-

A) As shaggy would say "it wasnt me"
B) I get my shopping delivered
C) I park in the NO PARKING hatched area and stay in my car (to be able to move it for the bus/ambulance/fire engine/fuzz chav taxi)to let my mrs pop in for any last minute items.

This way I have never had anyone damage my car in a supermarket car park.

It was from vantage point C that I witnessed this boxing in.
