I had etyres replace my Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s with Toyo T1R (on 15") on Saturday a.m. and so far I am impressed. My Mk1 no longer tramlines like a b@st@rd and low-speed manoeuvring is considerably less effort. Think they are a little narrower than the Eagles so outright grip may be a bit lower but so far, no complaints smile

They're a billy bargain too if you have a friendly garage to fit them for cheap... as they are only a measly £28 each from camskill!

I like them too. If anything I'd like the car to oversteer a bit more but you can't argue with good neutral grip; it's fast and easy to drive.

Agreed. My car was very sideways on its original cheapo 14's.

As much as well like to play Drift king, I'd rather have the extra security (particulalry in terms of braking force) offered by a higher grip tyre, and they disperse water really well.

I still have the 14's in the garage for when i get my ass to a car control day though driving

£28 is a bloody bargain too, have they come down a bit in price recently? I paid much more than that this time last year! frown

Any new tyres would probably have reduced the tramlining and reduce the low-speed manoeuvrability. Worn tyres do tend to cause these things.
T1R are a good tyre, especially at that price, but the GSD3 are just a bit better.

Anyone tried P6000 on an MX5 MkII? (14's)
Local price v good. They are great 'company car' tyres, but anyone on here tried them?
Comments please, as I'm buying 4 tyres this friday.

Just taken a set off my MkI and replaced them with Kumho KU31 on 15" rims and the car feels a lot better. More planted and generally more secure than it did before. If she's (or you are...) planning on keeping the car a while I'd recommend getting a set of 15s as tyres are cheaper and you have a much wider range to choose from. I paid £300 for a new set of 15s with tyres which is only £100 more than buying a decent set of 14" tyres.

Three sites well worth a look before buying.

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/
http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres_uk
http://www.tyretest.com/index.html (U.S. based I think)

P6000s don't fair too well, while some Falkens seem to get excellent reviews given their price.

I had a set of P6000s fitted to my mk1 MR2 many years ago and they were poor. Not sure whether they have changed much over the years?? In particular they seemed to have poor wet weather performance and seemed to wear extremely quickly. Never went back to Pirelli after that.....

F1's used to be rated higher than T1R's by many...

But I've been using a 200bhp 5 with them fitted and the damn thing just wheel spins everywhere.

My car has T1R's and is MUCH better but has an LSD too so perhaps its not a fair comparison.

I did have P6000s fitted, the rears were quite low on tread but grip was appalling, driving in the rain was terrifying!
Now have T1Rs fitted and they feel so much better, only had them a few weeks but looking forward to having a dry day to see how well they grip in the dry :s

I had P6000's on my 5 when i brought it. They are the most appaling tyre ever known to man. They were on my back wheels and i had bridgestone potenzas on the front. Well on my first drive (it was wet too) i ended up going backwards at 20mph when only feathering the loud pedal in 2nd or 3rd. They are atrotious.
Ive since swapped the 6000's onto the front and the potenzas onto the back and now have alot more grip just waiting to see a cheap set of 15's forsale and will buy then and pop the t1r's on and then finally i wont be scared of the wet!

thats what i was expecting but was also thinking would rather have understeer than uncontrollable over steer and going backwards rather than forwards on the bends.
BUT.....
Its only understeered once and that was down to driver error and stupidness rather than the car just understeering (eg acclerating too late on almost full lock into a junction and also meeting another car almost head on whilst cutting the blind bend junction as im an idiot (well i was at that point and dont know why i did it but luckily no contact just some expeltives))

I had p6000's on a couple of cars and they were the same on both:

1)Borderline dangerous in the wet. Spray wd40 onto your tread to get the feeling of what p6000's are like.
2)Squeal like s bd at low speeds when the road is warm
3)Wear rate wasnt that good either !!

I got yoko's on now and to be honest they are ok but not what i would call a great tyre.

I was looking to get toyos next or i was gonna give those hancook tyres (as used in the 5 Series racing a punt. Supposed to be a good road/track tyre and seemed to hang on ok when i tried a car with them on at Combe.

Found some Toyo's localy full fitted, £42 a corner. Get them on friday.

I've had several sets of 6000 on my A4 company cars and they were good.
The comment on yoko in the wet I can vouch for, but good in the dry.

This is all very subjective, but good discussion as i would expect on Pistonheads!
