At times it seems to me that the MX5 is the fiesta of Pistonheads – everyone has one/had one/will have one… there must literally be MILLIONS out there that are hidden away in PHers’ garages that I never see – I don’t see them that often.

Do you own one, and more importantly do you take it out and drive it?

Certainly do! Mine's my daily driver, and while it's not the most comfortable commuter you can buy, driving one daily can teach you a lot about how to handle a car properly.

Funny that you don't see them often - maybe it's because I own one, but I see at least 5 every morning on my way to work. I mainly see mk1+2's though; mk3's seem to be more elusive.

Yep, got a supercharged Mk1 RS-Ltd. Superb little car. A bit thirsty, and not the fastest thing ever in a straight line, but its got superb handling, and is an absolute hoot to drive at all times. Fairly unassuming too, I was always worried about where i parked my old ITR, but this thing just blends right in, but still looks quite good. Another thing I've noticed is that I'm not always as bothered about being stuck behind other cars on a twisty road at anything less than 60, because it entertains at lower speeds than any other car I've driven. For me this is something of a holy grail; too many cars nowadays have to be travelling far too quickly to have any fun.

My MK1 is my only car!

Love it to bits!

Seen maybe another 6-8 Mk1/Mk2's round where I live, and a couple of the new ones.

An '89 Mk 1, and an '02 Mk 2.5.

Newer one is Mrs Maser's daily drive, older one is my track day toy and town runabout!

So in our family of two, we have......

Two!

Yep got one in the summer just gone. It's a mk1 1.8 and is the first 'sporty' car I've owned.

I enjoy driving it although it can be a real pain at times due to the number of speed bumps round my area, as the bottom scrapes on some of them.

Cracking motors for the money and the only rwd sportscar which I could insure for vaguely sensible money and even then it was still £850.

you know there's one other RWD sportscar you could insure for £850 in you're (I'm assuming) early 20's.... and thats the one I've got biggrin

But an MX-5 is on the cards... curse you PH's staple Siren!

I'm on my 3rd since 2000. Its a mk1 RS-Ltd - probably the best of the best. I keep having the need to buy something more exotic, but so far everything seems to fail to beat the '5 for fun value. I'm hoping that when I finally try a Ferrari 355GTB, that will beat it in terms of keeping a smile on my face.

wavey

20 years old with 222,000km on the clock. Gets driven most days, tracked occasionally, regularly treated like a rally car and (almost) never misses a beat.

Yes. Used over the summer, but not so fun in this weather so it is SORN and garaged.

Did have it up for sale, but too many enquiries to deal with so I'm keeping it until the spring and then will decide whether or not to keep it as a second car or sell it smile

Pffft, I experienced my first snowfall in the '5 the other day. Cracking fun biggrin

ETA: The meaty heater also makes roof down stargazing possible at 2am in the middle of a Scottish December hehe

Bought my first one new in 98 (Mk1 Berkeley) and the current one in 2003, got it sc'd in 2004, was featured in EVO Magazine (Road & Track Car of the Year 2004 - didn't win but did do very well, the video is great). I use it regularly and take it on track when I can. They really are great little cars.

I believe back in 98 they hit 800,000 MX5s sold worldwide. Must be double that now.

1.6 Eunos - it's a daily driver (when I'm about).

Super motor, super easy to fix, super fun, and if you want to pedal it fast around the countryside, just enjoy keeping the speed up through the twisties, because you won't be rebuilding it that quickly on the straights....

In terms of their brief, Mazda got just about every point spot on in terms of putting enjoyment into this car.
