I know a lot of people use the above oil in their 5 so thought Id let you know that Halfords are currently offering 5l for £38, just under £10 less than it normally is.

I know its not as cheap as Costco but for those who dont have a Costco card its a nice little saving.

Ill be braving the cold this weekend to service the missus' 5.

Unless you have a turbo its completely over the top to use such expensive oil.

MX5's regularly exceed 130k on std non synthetic oil.

I supply semi syth to be on the safe side and have used it in my SC'd cars for many years with no problems.

Also Mobile Super S 10W40 Semi is £24.99 for 5 litres, £5 cheaper than mx5parts.

Unless you can get it from Costco for just under £25 for 4L in which case it's not expensive at all!

In my (limited) experience it is worth it:

Fresh Mobil 1 semi-synth: HLA clatter when hot
Mobil 1 fully-synth: HLA issues completely solved!

I would agree though that if you don't have HLA issues it's probably OTT.

Yup - having used a variety of semi and fully synthetic oils from Fuchs, silkolene, castrol...

Mobil 1 is the only oil that has completely cured my (previously often very bad) sticking hla fault.

Worth it, IMO, mines a 100k mile engine that still feels sweet as a nut otherwise, long may it continue.
