im hoping you guys can point me in the right direction with my tempreature issue. this morning i started my car up as usual, let it run as it was iced up. after about 10-15 minutes the temperature gauge had climbed upto 3/4 instead of the normal 1/2 way that i am accustomed to, off i drove and as expected the temp dropped down to the 1/2 way mark. when i got stuck in traffic it climbed back to 3/4. the fan did eventually cut it, however my car has never got that hot before, usually the temp sits bang in the middle all day long. could it be a dodgy thermostat or as anyone else ever experienced this? thanks in advance

It's probably a dodgy stat.

But don't start it running and leave it for 10 minutes in the morning before driving off furious You're not doing it any favours by doing that. De-ice, then start and drive off.

Couple of things...

Are you SURE you have plenty on Anti freeze in ?

Otherwise sounds like a dodgy T stat or fan / switch.

i retract my earlier statment, theres coolant in the header tank but ive just changed the rad cap and the rad has taken a litre of water....mmmm i'll get it on a ramp tomorrow and see if anythings leaking, the thermostat and fan switch has already arrived from the local factors. rad cap thermostat kit and fan switch £29 inc vat delivered within 4 hours.
