Just wondering if anyone has any idea if a spare key could be made up for my mk1, at it only came with one (well, 1.5, the 0.5 consists of a twisted almost snapped & useless key). dont want any mishaps with the remaining key!

Phil.

Yeah if it's an early model without any fancy transponder gubbins inside the key, it'll cost you about £2 from a key cutting place biggrincloud9 MX5s

Also from what i read on mx5nutz you can get them from dandy car by giving them some numbers from the keys and chassis.

The OEM keys sem to be made out of putty, I've eaten toast with more structural integrity that them.
I've one (cracked) original key, and a Mister Minit spare, the immobiliser fob is on the ring, which does a fine job of getting me in and allowing me to start the car.

Cheers guys, i'll be visiting the local key cutter shortly! clap

I'm guessing getting hold of a spare immobiliser thingy is rather more tricky (yes, it only came with one 1.5 of these too...)

Update - got a key cut from local man, and it works fine! Good job really as the one i had has also cracked. Looks like i was just in time!

The door locks are both stiff (which probably had its part in breaking the key to start with), is there anything that can be done to ease this???

Pop the doorcard off (few screws along the bottom, one through the 'cup' of the door handle, one inside the door pull, maybe a couple more) and give the (rather complex!) mechanism a blast over with some spray grease, and get some inside the lock barrel too.

Easiest way is to give a mazda dealer your registration and they will make up the key for you, £8 I think it is and you get a nicer looking key than a blank one from a key cutters!
