I'm thinking of adding a cone filter, more for the noise than any definite hp gains, but as I was looking at the airbox yesterday on my mk2 1.6 it seemed connected to all sorts of gubbins and electrical thingy-ma-bobs.
Unt zo... is the cone filter worth it/easy to fit and where do I get a good one from? What makes are there besides K&N etc.?

TIA

The K&N is a decent & good sized filter & will pretty much bolt onto your MAF- thats the electronic gubbins you mentioned.

Only my opinions by the way biggrin
Apexi do a decent one, well rated but £££(slightly smaller cone, comes with a heat shield- for Mk1s anyway.
HKS do the big mushroom foam filters, they also have a following.
Blitz do very pretty ones, but IMHO not best build quality.
There are loads & IMHO there isnt a great deal between them in gains terms.

Arc air chamber matched with an Arc air box is the best sounding/performing combo also IMHO biggrin

Thanks for the info, I'll look around for some Arc stuff - any suggestions?

ETA - Holy Shizzle my Nizzle - $300+ ! Yikes, I'm not quite looking in that budget.

To buy new very $$$ I don't think many would do that. Go used, they come up from time to time on Ebay etc or I got mine for £100 from the Nutz parts for sale board. Good source of MX5 used goodies.

I do keep an eye on the nutz board, I'm not sure if I'd want a second hand filter, though I'm not sure why.
I'm looking at treating myself to a K&N Typhoon system from Demon Tweeks, more than I really want to spend, but I quite fancy it and maybe future-proofing for the supercharger...

It's expensive but I rate the JR CAI highly. It sounds great, is well made and is one of the only ones that consistantly shows gains on a dyno.
