When I bought my mk1 mx5 it came with a set of unmarked 15" wheels (not mazda, but look alright).

They also came with a good amount of rubber on them.

They look better on my car than the originals, but the insurance co won't have me having anything non-standard, so on that note, would be intersted in whacking them in the classified section...but what should I ask for them?? I have absolutely no idea!! LOL

Any ideas??

Cheers

They are actually Max Power alloys...seriously!!!! paperbag

They have little MP logos on them, but I prefer the styling to the standard ones!!

It looks like I'm gunna have to get out the camera after admitting to prefering Max Power alloys!! hehe

I paid £180 for the OEM Mk2 15"s I bought a little while back. Which is possibly a bit steep, but they had nearly-new Bridgestones on them, and were local and convenient.

Check Ebay to see if there are any similar rims, and what they go for.

Depends on the age/risk of the proposer - sometimes they will outright refuse to insure a modified car.

So if your wheels are damaged or in a bad state you have to pay a fortune for oem replacements or refurbish or if you buy a car with non-standard alloys you have to buy a set of oems to replace them with. That makes a lot of sense jester

Technically, yes.
Usually, however, they will turn a blind eye to wheels that are the standard size but a different design. As mentioned previously around here mine has OEM Mk2 15"s on it; but it's a UK base-model 1.8, should have steelies.

Unfortunately, mine would have none of it.

Oh well!!

So circa £150 then?? The rubber is in pretty good condition and fairly new.

Surely they are only concerned about the cost of replacing aftermarket wheels. What if you told them they were worth nothing? If you have to replace the wheels it will probably be cheaper to shop around and find a different insurer who isn't so picky about the wheels (I'm sure most aren't interested - I know AON don't care on my insurance).

I don't think insurance is quite that black and white. Some insurance companies may deem it as a greater risk (Now whilst we all know aftermarket wheels don't do anyting to the perforamnce or make you drive like Lewis Hamilton) An insurance company make take the view that it increases the 'risk factor'? Not saying they are right, but that's insurance companies for you!! Some companies don't care, others just want to insure main stream cars/'risks' so are a bit more anal about 'mods'............

Yes but some don't care about things like alloy wheels so given a choice of spending £150 on a set of wheels or shopping around a bit I know which I'd choose.

Ok - here are the wheels.

It's running a Yokahama tyre with LOADS of tread left.

What do you think these are worth??

Look like Yoko Parada tyres - very popular.

Remember that it's not just the MX5 that uses the 4x100 PCD, it's quite a lot of other cars (mostly small hatches) - although I've never managed to find a complete list.

I'm pretty sure that the Max Power wheels were made by TSW so they're not completely rubbish rims.

If you'd got those pictures up when you first started this thread I would have had them off you.
