Right my daily drive needs new tyres

At the moment I have 14" on some really nice and light standard alloys with Avon ZV3 (or somthing like that). Theyve been ok, good in dry and progressive in the wet, not amazing but they do they job well, I think ive had about 20,000 out of them with lots of hard driving, cant complain!

I like to "push on" round bends and the roads are quite greasy around me lots of B roads thosmile

I know Goodyear F1s are good and the Toyo equivalent are rated, but due to size stock levels are funny. I'm not interested in getting larger wheels, I know there is more choice, I just like my current alloys

Anyone know any good offers on at the moment mail order based?

Or I am based in Sunny Swindon, anyone know any good tyre depots that have a good choice and service in Wilts?

Cheers in advance folks.

Camskill.co.uk are always good and there website is listed in size order so jsut see whats available in 14/185/55 or whatever it is.

Bear in mind that is possible to change the tyre size a little if that will get you a better deal..

If the width goes up, the profile will go down.

There are calculators online that will tell you the %age differences in rolling radius for different sizes, it may be hardly noticeable.

Don't know of any deals currently. But I'm going to push the "Dunlop Sport Fast Response" as that's what I got and I've been very happy with them.

Hi OP am not a million miles from you, Bath, & Know Swindon well. I'm also on 14"s & have a set of Avon zvt3 that came with the car & I think they are ok but a little unpredictable on anything but really good surfaces.
I'm also considering the dunlop SP's.

Cheers for quick responses

Not sure if I am going to sell the car soon am therefore tempted by these : http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?show=12876

Anyone any experiences, I had them on golf a few years ago and they were OK?

Then I think I'll go for the Dunlop Fast Responses, if I keep the car

Anyone know how much a back street tyre place would charge to fit and balance four tyres for cash and I would dispose of the old tyres?

IIRC somebody over on Nutz was talking quite positively about these. If they do the job they seem like pretty good deal to me.

Tenner each probably, I would have thought they'll be able to dispose of the old ones too.

If not take them down the local tip, easy enough.

Hi Tuttle, yeah good point on some grades of tarmac they snap away very easily and when cold they have no grip at all! Strange tyre actually

Tempted by the Falkens then

I looked into this last week (Camskills Toyo offer). Called my usual tyre place, they are about as back street as I could find (they also did my geometry) and they wanted £15 plus VAT per wheel. Fit, balance and dispose. By the time I factored in delivery Black Circles were only 50p a wheel more expensive.

cheers for the help guys, yep A2Z by the time i've factored everything in buying online I reckon I will save around £20, but with lots of hassles. The benefit of online is you can choose the exact tyres you want and read reviews on them

tempted by Dunlop SP Sport 200, but searching the archives on here they didn't go down well on a 5!

Stop Press: Just had a look on Blackcircles and they have Falken 912s for £45 fitted and the fitting station is at the end of my road! Think I will go for that.

Lifted from another thread on here that I posted on last week:

"I'll add my voice to support the Falkens on 14" wheels.

I did my first track day in the Eunos at Brands last Sunday. The day started wet and then dried out and the Falkens were entirely predictable throughout the day. I'm sure there are stickier tyres available but the great thing about the Falkens was that while they allowed the car to move about a bit, they were really progressive and never gave up the fight to keep us on the black bits. To me, that's what I want from a tyre. I'm not racing and I'm very happy to trade the last few 10ths of speed for controllable fun. Plus, they haven't suffered much wear (unlike the Goodyears on the Impreza I used to track occasionally) and they're very good value for money."

Stuck a set on Falken on my Mk1 just after I got it to replace the scary Chinese things it had on. So far so good - no unexpected surprises in either the dry or rain. Grip well and don't just let go with no warning once you've reached the limit. thumbup

Near Winchester (half way to Basingstoke on A33)

Google maps

always good prices, inc fitting/balance and VAT. I was quoted £43 ish a corner for the Falkens in June (for 195/50-15), but I haven't got round to it yet. They are seemingly in the middle of nowhere with only a train station for company, but it is a surprisingly large facility with all mod cons. They look after bikers there too. Saturday mornings are properly chokka, but you can book a bay in advance.

My super illustrations ^^ if you didn't know it was there, how would you? just remember the directions to Micheldever station, not the village further south!

I moved to Sunny Bognor, but still find it economical to go here, especially if I visit the olds in Southampton, I take all the old roads, and get a great drive into the bargain!
