Hi all,

The dipped headlight on my 1990 Eunos has decided to die. I have given it a few encouraging taps, but nowt. Having looked at the unit, the only screws I can see seem to be the horizontal and vertical adjustment ones. Anyone got any any experience of changing these bulbs, and happy to give me a few pointers?

Thanks in advance

Jono

Hi mate

The lights on the Eunos are sealed and you cannot simply change the bulb (unless it has already been upgraded) There are three screws which hold a retaining ring in place, they are set a little further back than the adjustment screws. mx5parts.co.uk do a unsealed replacement unit which is pretty good and will allow you to replace the bulbs in the future.

A right PITA but pretty easy to change for a better unit.

Best of luck

The original sealed-beam lights on mine were so poor as to be verging on dangerous, if yours are the same then replacing with the semi-sealed equivalent should be a revelation and would be worth doing for the improved light even if you didn't have a bulb gone.

Its really a very simple job to swap them - pop lights up, take off plastic surround, loosen 3 screws, remove ring, pull light out, unplug, plug new one in, slide into place, slot ring back in, tighten screws, replace plastic surround.

I recently upgraded my sealed units to the Wipac free form units mx5 parts sell (currently on a special for £15:00 each). Then binned the supplied H4 bulbs & put in Osram nightbreakers.
They might not be RayBriggs but it sure made a helluva difference for not too much outlay.

A word of advice on changing the units. The 3 cross head retaining ring screws are made of plasticine & are prone to sieze up. Give em a good blast with WD40 or similar the night before you want to do the work. You can get away with just undoing the top 2 screws & rotating the retaining ring, the bottom one is a royal PITA to get at!

Got this job planned for the weekend, using the freeform crystal clears, but I found to my horror - no rubber dust boots included!!
arses, I don't want dirty/steamy lights 5 mins after I fit them.

I guess if upgrading from uk mx5 you'd have them on the originals, but us poor sealed beam import folks start with nothing.
