hoping someone can shed some light on the following problem i have with my 92 eunos. after driving for a few miles i stop in traffic/lights/junction etc and the car idles around 1200-1400rpm, its my understanding it should sit around 800, very occasionally it does sit where it should but 90% of the time its idling far too high. ive had the problem since i bought the car and its never really bothered me, however i have some time on my hands so thought i should look into sorting it out. should i start with the air valve idle speed control or does someone know better?

Its about setting the base idle - common problem.

You have to balance the 'manual' idle (which is controlled by the bleed screw) with the electronically controlled idle.

There are guides on miata.net or in Rods book, but im sure someone can link you.

2 minute job - all you need is a paperclip and a screwdriver. As Snotrag says, there are guides around explaining the process.

EDIT: here you go

Ah the old 'idle droop' syndrome - usually preceeded by disconnecting the battery IIRC.

thanks guys, did the trick last night - a mechanic at my work even had a little loom from his days at a mazda dealer for the job instead of a paperclip!
