Hi All

I am going to be buying the switch, relay and fuse to enable my heated rear screen on the hardtop since its now on - i was just wondering where the switch should be located and hopefully there is a connector block sitting waiting to be plugged in ?

Cheers

Steve

From memory, I think there should be a blank on the lower dash to the right of the steering wheel that has a connector behind it.

However, whether you car has a wired connector block/relay/pigtail etc or not depends on its age. There's some useful hardtop info here, including tables to show what bits you need to buy to wire up the hardtop defroster depending on what year your car and your hardtop are.

Mines the left most switch ofthe three...

Left is HRW (its split into 2 halves and one is a blank)

Middle is rear fog light

Right ir Mirrors.

You'll porbably find that theres not really any correlation between what we say on here, and what you find on your car. There much like kit cars in that respect!

You'll jsut just have to get under the dash and root about I think.

Thanks all smile

Lol i thought as much about it differing but its good to hear other peoples experiences... if i can avoid ripping out the dash then its a bonus hehe Definately wanting the screen heated now though - already been a couple of mornings where i could have done with it !

Mines a late MK1 (1997) and i know there is at least one blank on the right between the door and wheel so fingers crossed its one of those..

How do the the blanks pop out? Flat head scredriver, or can you get in behind it and pop it out with a finger ?

Cheers

On my '97 UK car it's the middle of the 3 blanks between the door and wheel, the right hand one is the rear fog, the left one is blank.

My fog is the right most, dash dimmer in the middle, and window on the left. Mirrors are the annoying big square control below the radio. I don't think any two cars are the same hehe

Depends on what day they were built on biggrin

I don't think they suffer the usual french 'friday production line' problems though hehe

UPDATE :

Right i think i have all the right parts - wondering if someone can confirm i have everything ?

1 x Relay (LA10)
1 x Electric Antenna Fuse (N008)
1 x Switch

I believe i already have the short curly wire that livens up the actual connector on the rear shelf.

Also - anyone know the location of where the relay/fuse needs to go. Any pics ?

Cheers

That's strange. I've got a '97 Mk1 too and I don't recognise that. Is that the bit connected to the screen, or the socket behind the seat? I've got a guide on how to do it somewhere. If you drop me an email I'll forward it to you.

Will email you now smile that lead/connection is from the hardtop itself.
