I've mentioned on here before that I'm getting the rear arches and sills on my 5 repaired at the moment. I am getting the bodyshop to machine polish the whole car whilst it's with them, to make it look like new. I then intend to apply some Autoglym High Definition Wax.

I understand that it's best to apply a few coats of wax for the best finish, so the question is:

How many coats of wax should I appply?
How long do you leave between coats?
Should I wash the car between coats?
Should I apply anything after the wax, such as Turtle Wax Gloss Guard?

Thanks

Many people on here also frequent Nutz, where you have an identical post so probably best refer to the advice you've been getting there.

Cheers Paddy. That's exactly what I was trying to avoid hence why I didn't post there, I have no place in my life for the Dark Side, too many other things to do. Plus my son seems to love running his mucky fingers all over my 5, so if I spent hours detailing it I might start getting a bit annoyed with him. I'm afraid the Autoglym is purchased and will be getting applied shortly. Just looking forward to getting the car back rust free at the moment.

I have found Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection is pretty effective and quick/easy to use. It is a bit of a 'cheat' as it has filler as well as sealant and the glossy finish doesn't last more than a few weeks if it's rainy but you can re-apply quickly, especially on a small car like the 5.

I know it's the wrong way around but I usually use the AG EGP BEFORE using a good wax (I like Maguires Carnauba wax) as EGP seems to use some kind of solvent that's very effective at removing insect stains and tar spots.

AFAIK that's the correct procedure Lazza - sealant and then wax. I use EGP with Collinite Marque D'elegance wax on-top and this gives great results with a deep shine and insane water-beading.

Both products easy to apply with virtually no white powdery residue smile

Cheers Guys. Looks like I'm off to purchase some EGP. So, is it just one coat of EGP and then slap on the wax?

A mate of mine does detailing and would start with a clay bar, then clenser, followed by Carnuba and that seems to work.
