evening chaps smile

I swapped out my plugs the other week and kept the old ones just so i could see what was in there.

Upon a bit of research it appears the old plugs were long reach NGK's, whereas the new ones are standard NGK's as recommended/sold by mx5parts..

The question is - are the long reach plugs worth it? Any real world gains to be had? Or are they snake oil?

Least it looks like the previous owner was a bit of an enthusiast to have fitted them smile

The long reach plugs are only a couple ofquid more than standard NGKs. A lot of follk, who are infinately smarter than I, seem to recomended them for " more efficient combustion" as they ignite that tiny bit lower in the cylinder- I think.
As the priceto standard plugs was comparable I fitted some when servicing about 3 months ago. Ihavent noticed any appreciable improvement ( '95 1.8 in near standard state of tune), having said that the old gal continues to run sweetly & consistantly.
Just had a wonderful week driving Bristol to Penzance, 200 miles each way & some fantastic moorland B road stuff atnight, roof down , stars out, surreal ! Me & the 5 loved it smile

the NGK plugs suitable for FI are a different heat rating (07 instead of 06 i believe?)

I wasn't suggesting you use them in FI either.

For Hi power FI I'd use Iridiums but for everything else std NGK.
