Hi Guys,

Just been out to the car and noticed that my rear tyres are on the wear bar limit (P6000s).

What's the recommendations for suitable replacements? (I have a single P6000 and another tyre on the front) but they seem ok at present.

Obviously i'd like something that offers good performance/grip whilst still being cost effective

Cheers,
Phill

15" standard wheels = Toyo T1R
14" standard wheels = Goodyear F1 GSD2 (or if hard to find I chose Dunlop Sport Fast Response)

Damn I meant to check before I left the car. Think they're 14" (Mk1).

Too many roundabouts in MK!

Thanks,
Phill

I've just been out to the car to check the tyre sizes and the "unknown" brand tyre that I have on the front looks a bit soft and perished.

It's probably be worth me changing all four.

So do I:

a) Replace all tyres (185 60 R14)

b) Buy a set of 15" wheels and tyres? If so what size tyres do I need?

15" = 195/55 MyTyres price for toyos = £53.01
14" = 185/60 MyTyres price for Goodyear F1 = £45.60 (Dunlop sport fast response £43.15)

Me. I'd slap the Goodyears on it.

Just looking at Mytyres...

Now I don't normally skimp on tyres but has any one tried:

Falken ZIEX ZE-912 "Ultra High Performance Tyres" @ £34.30 a corner?

195-50-R15's are 28quid a corner...

Personally, I'd get a set of standard mk2 mazda 15's... they're light, realatively easy to come by and a fair few tyre options if you have to get a new lot anyway.

If you think your mazda handles on P6000ditch finders, you're about to be very very impressed. hehe

Personally I'd put road tyres on the 15s and R888s on the 14s if it's going to be used on track.

Just stuck four of these (14" ones) on mine - seem good so far (ie, no brown trouser moments - but it hasn't rained yet! paperbag). £29 each from Camskill. They've had some good reviews on Tyre Reviews

Also just stuck 4 of these on mine. I cannot offer any comparison to Toyos/Goodyears, but they are a vast improvement on the Runway Ditchfinders fitted before.

Sidewalls might be a bit soft as the car feels quite rolly-poly beyond the limit of grip - but I'm on standard suspension anyways. Slightly higher pressures help.

Dry grip is great, wet grip is reasonable enough but still allows for a bit of power-down fun on the odd wet roundabout - IMHO just what you want, as it means a bit of fun at relatively safe speeds smile

tyre size for 15 is 195/50. i prefer the look (depending on wheels obviously) of the car on 14's but it's just so difficult to get decent rubber for sensible money in that size (barring the 888's). for info, on my 14's i had proxes CF-1 which were ok but probably suited more to a heavier car. but i had to upgrade to 15's as i objected to paying twice the price for a smaller equivalent tyre, and there's loads of options on 15's (plus 2nd hand wheels are cheap). when my t1r's run out, i'm either going dunlop SP fast response as rated very highly on mytyres, or michelin pilot exalto 2 as i'm a costco member - and i want to go back to circumferential grooves after trying the v-groove tyres like the F1's and T1R's.

Anything will be better than the P6000s that are currently on there!

Will wait and see if I can do a deal on the 15" wheels if not i'll get some tyres put on the standard 14s and wait and pick up another set of wheels next year!

A set at £20 with 9 days left to bid on a certain website that bids on auctions and stuff.....
a little scuffed, but could be worth a look and refurb like wot I did.

No Centre caps though frown
But you may find a set of those somewhere / how over time......
They would be ideal.... don't mind getting my hands dirty and no centre caps isn't a problem.

Can you send me a link?

Tempted by these but I don't think I like the design of the wheel itself.

hehe

My current combination of Firestone firehawks on the front and Kingstars on the rear is, er, 'entertaining' when it rains drivingbiggrin

By the way, I don't recommend kingstars...

The P6000s are a bit like that when pushing on!
