My 15 month old son sits in a forward facing childseat, can I put him in my '98 MkII without disabling the airbag? I've read some comments that if you push the seat as far back as it goes it's ok, is this correct?

Thanks

Dont take the chance diable the air bag. Air bags are I think a good ider but you must remeber they work via an exploding charge.

This is what my handbook says. However mine is a MK2.5. Make your own mind up, it's your kid after all.

PS... My 2 year old loves the MX5 wink

Good work Stumpage, if Mazda say it's ok then that's good enough for me - looks like JQ jnr is going for an outing in the MX5 this weekend - I'm positive he'll absolutely love it.

I must admit it does make sense, and it what I thought - in his car seat he's in a 5 point harness so will not flop forward like a adult in a 3 point belt would and therefore would not come into contact with the airbag should it go off. I can also understand why you can't put a rear-facing seat in - his head would be positioned exactly in front of the airbag - like smacking him on the back of the head with a mallet.

Obviously I'm not going to be drifting the car round any corners - I'll just be nice for him come out for a Sunday morning pootle.
