Right then. Some of you will know I've been tempted by a mk3 for a while, and I'm finally ready to take the plunge... Is there anything specific I should look out for?

The particular car I'm interested in has been aligned by WiM but it would be going back there to be lowered and re-aligned.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are nothing alike really so its hard to compare.

Mk3 is a good car but not an MX5 to me.

My understanding, which is admittedly quite often wrong, is that the rear suspension on a Mk3 is not double wishbones. If this is correct, and in that Mk1s and Mk2s are thought to have exceptionally good....and adjustable....handling by virtue of double wishbones on all four corners, is the fact that the Mk3 has something different a backward step?

According to the USA forums a std Mk3 seems to be faster in Autocross than a reasonably modified Mk1 - 2.5.

(Much as I hate to admit it)

The Mk3 has better suspension setup which gives both a better ride and more grip. This means it will be quicker on track/sprint/autosolo. What it loses though is detailed feedback that you get from the earlier models which means a 1990 Mk1 1.6 will feel much faster, more alive and ultimately more fun on a b-road at 50mph than the Mk3 will on the same road at 80mph. Which one is for you is all about personal preferences.
