Hi,

I've got a problem with my '92 1.6 Eunos.

It starts, runs on cylinders 1&4 for about a second, then the ignition is cut.

I don't believe it's the common air flow sensor problem, as the fuel pump doesn't cut out.

Cylinders 2 and 3 have no spark (i.e from the left coil), but I have proven that the coil is fine by trying a pair from a working car. I also tried swapping the coils over, but it still gave the same fault)

I do enjoy a challenge, but currently a bit stumped.I bought the car (very cheap) with this problem.

Any ideas of what it could be or what to try next would be most welcome!

Thanks in advance, Chris.

Weird - I was going to go the air flow sensor route for an answer!

Unlikely I know, and you've probably tried it, but starting it and trying to get some revs up?

Have you tried new HT leads or an alternative coil pack, can't help but think with a confirmed issue with sparks on 2 & 3 may be a short somewhere, and perhaps the ECU amp fires up for a second, realises it's overloaded and shuts down. So also wiring to coils for any insulation off or trapped under a grounded piece of metal?

I'm surprised it runs at all on 2 cyl's.............have you checked that there are actually any pistons in 2 & 4? hehe

Seriously though, I'd be checking the LT/pre coil side of the ign too.

Fixed it!

Thanks for the comments guys. Pulled the codes and got code 1, ignition fault. So I was in the right area. Turned out to be the ignition amplifier (igniter) which was built into the coilpacks on later cars. £35 delivered from eBay and I now have a running Eunos.

It gets a new windscreen tomorrow* and I have to weld a small patch into one sill this afternoon, so it should be MOT'd by the end of this week. All in, it will owe me around £600. The gamble of buying a cheap non-runner paid off!

Never driven one of these cars before, so I'm rather looking forward to it!

  • Autoglass quoted me £289 for a screen fitted. A local independent company wants £98. On asking him where he got the glass so cheap from... Yup, Autoglass!

Yay, it's on the road! MOT'd, no advisories.

It appears to have a strut brace, lowered bislteins and a working LSD. I also hope to have a roll-bar (proper one) in it by the end of the week as it is booked in for the Marham trackday this weekend.

Rather looking forward to it!
