Hi everyone,

Very close to returning to the MX5 fold 7 years after selling my 2.5

I have seemed to develop a nasty obsession with the RS-LTD, sleepless nights scouring the net etc etc, without success.

This :- http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1229191.htm

has just appeared and i would appreciate any views from the learned.

I know its overpriced, and its going to be a bit of a push financially, but i've spent the last year or so trying to find something to a similar condition without luck

Go for it?

Cheers

Alex

Yes.

It is a lot of money for a Mk1 but RSs tend to fetch a premium anyway and it does have all the RS spec parts and looks to be in very good condition.

Those aren't the original seats, despite where it says "WITWITH the kevlar backed Recaro bucket seats"

Sell your soul and eat beans for the next year. It's THE Mk1 one to have.

They are the original seats.

It looks mint and Dandy cars are generous with px's if you have one. I'd say £4k is a good price unless you can get a decent warranty etc.

Thanks fella's. Seats have had a re-trim and are probably main reason i'm after it. No trade in but need to get a bit of a deal

In that case every other one I've seen has aftermarket seats.

Probably. The RS Ltd should have carbon/kevlar backed seats.

I saw that one the other day (it's where I had mine serviced). Very, very pretty in that colour, nice guys too.

£5k seems a bit stiff for a '5 that's no faster than a standard one, but then I'm not bothered by rarity, just how much fun I can have...

The back looks right, but the front not. If as someone has suggested, they've been re-covered then they could be originals

I have to agree with Gizmo. The RS is lovely, no doubt...

But with 5 grand you could get a really tidy 1.8 import, and then with 3 grand left over you could do an awful lot to it to make it much more desireable than the RS.

Technically it is faster than a standard one - they had lightened flywheels, light seats and shorter gearing. The Mk2 RS also has a bit more power due to higher compression, not sure if this also applies to the Mk1 RS.

If the seats were sold separately they would fetch at least £500 in tatty condition, that's one reason an intact RS fetches premium money wink

Does sound expensive but it is a limited run mx5 not just a special edition which if you did consider selling it later on could fetch more money. BUT thats not important if you like it buy it it does look very nice.

Those are definitely the original seats - I have an RS-LTD and thats what my seats are like.

Good that they've been retrimmed. My drivers seat needs a repair.

I only paid £3900 for mine but that one is in much better condition than mine (at the moment). However, to be fair mine is supercharged.

It is a lovely car. Perhaps a bit overpriced, but it is lovely.

Dandy Cars do have a good warranty and a good workshop so if that's important to you it definitely adds to the value of the car smile

A couple of stupidly low offers.

I have spent a lot on it putting it right now though and am really starting to enjoy it, so i'm going to keep it.

As others have said they are the correct seats.

It is expensive but arguably less so than most of their other cars.

You should be able to get one for £3500 - 4k but you may be waiting ages, a friend of mine bought one, complete with seats for £2400 but it was tatty.

TBH I have Exige seats in mine which I find more comfortable and light wheels / flywheel are easily available and a fractionally lower ratio diff I don't see as an advantage.

For that price you could get a really nice FI'd version, I've just sold a really nice 250bhp FM2 for only £800 more and BBR's are available from £2k.
