Best 14" tyres for wet weather?
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
The MRS will be using my MK1 MX5 as her daily from now on. Now i've had some brown trouser lockups at unexpected times in it myself and i don't like the idea of her not being able to stop the car in an emergency. What i want is optimum grip in wet weather and OK performance in dry weather.
Got standard 14's on at the moment, what are people finding works best in the wet?
Thanks,
Rick.

My OH also uses MY MX5 as HER daily driver...
The Mrs didn't crash it on Goodyear F1s
She did crash it when it had P6000s on it for a few days
She's yet to crash it on Dunlop Sport Fast Response
Someone on here managed to get a set of Goodyear F1s from an online retailer which was a shock. So if you can do that I would.

p6000's are out then.
F1's are a bit pricey though eh? I mean, her safety IS important but i've got a V8 to feed now you see.
I'd be happy with 75% crashability if the price is right.

I too am interested to know the answer to this question, being stuck on 14" wheels with crap endurance tyres from the previous owner. I've heard Falken Ziex-912s are quite good?
Would be interested to hear how anyone rates the Dunlop Sport Fast Response on an MX-5 though - Kwik St rather surprisingly fitted them to my grandparents lease car (a 2 tonne MPV) and they seem quite good!

I'm running them. I think they are pretty good. I find them grippier in the dry than the Goodyear F1s. And I've had no problems in the wet. But I don't throw it around a lot in the wet. They even stood up to a trackday at Bedford without "melting" like the F1s did previously.
I'd certainly have another set.
Also consider Goodyear Hydragrip. I've heard very good things about these on MX5s and I have them on my Focus. Much better than the P6000 or NCTs that I've tried on it before.
The main advantage these will have over performance tyres like F1s is that they still work on cold roads (performance tyres tend to give up when the temp goes below about 6C).
