Phew - I thought you were going to ask about Mk 1 prices for a moment! They can't really get any cheaper !

(Unless it's 'I've come to look at the car you've got for sale?' 'Sure, it's over there, can I give you 200 pounds to take it away')

Basically when people stop buying them...

But as we haven't had much of a summer they never really started so I don't think we'll see much of a drop.

I'd think the recession / seller desperation affects prices more than the weather as the MX5 can happily be used year round unlike MGB's etc.

It is possible now/over the next few months, it wont be immaculate at that money, and for just a touch more you could get a ridiculously nice one. So nice infact, I'd save that little bit longer (I did, totally worth it!) Mk2's have taken a real hit, as have mk1s - I think they'll stabilise soon enough.

A £2-2.5k mark II will be as rough as a badger's arse yes

If that's your budget, then my advice would be to look at Mk1's instead.

How much more ~ would a ridiculously nice one be? I don't really have a set budget but 2.5k is a reasonable amount without saving a bit more.

I do also have my eye on some mk1's too.

Has anyone used Goodwood sports cars at Berwick before who part specialise in MX5's?

Unlike motorcycles that don't have heaters & a roof, I wouldn't say they differed in price much seasonally........on the other hand, Mk1 prices have started creeping up so I'd get hold of one ASAP if I were you.

I paid £3.5k for mine in April, possibly a little overpriced (really needed a new roof, not immediately obvious though) but it's clean inside, outside and underneath. I guess a 1.6 Mk2 might be a bit cheaper, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

I've met Steve, he seems a nice enough chap and certainly knows a thing or two about MX5's.

Or buy a really good mk1. The differences are mostly styling and mechanical tinkering as I understand it... And girls love popup lights hehe

I paid 2,600 for a S plate mk2 in Feb... its a 1.8S with an LSD, leather seats FSH from Mazda and even came with a hard top... so it definitely can be done in your budget. It was up for sale at 3000... so look at slightly more expensive cars and bargain hard when you get there.

That's quite a bargain - what sort of mileage/condition?

Condition is very good but the alloys could do with a refurb, not kerbed, just don't look their best. Couple of barely perceptible supermarket dinks in the door but the paint is in very good condition apart from that. Interior very good also, not really showing its age at all.

Mileage is a little on the high side at 145k though but I guess for an 11 year old car that's just average mileage really. Came with every single recipt from new though including the original purchase recipt and every tyre change, service and MOT and looks to have been well maintained so hopefully it should keep going for a while yet.
