Has anyone used the "Rear Wing, Wheel Arch and Sill Repair Section, Mk2/2.5" from MX5Parts.com

I have quite a bit of rust on both rear arches and am trying to decide whether to grind out the rust, fill and paint or get the rusty sections cut out and get the repair sections welded in.

I've had quotes on both and the worry is that if I just patch repair and fill, the rust will return, however the cost of welding in new panels is well over double just repairing - £400 against £850.

I guess the question is - if I get the repair panels welded in, is it a long term solution to the rust, or is it still likely to return? Are the panels of a good quality and therefore will the car look like new with the new paneld welded in? - the rest of the car is mint.

The car is a 1998 MkII worth less than £3k so these are big costs for the car.

All help and advice greatly received.

I had some bubbling on the rear arch of my 5. Took it to a garage who ground it back to good, filled it out where needed and then repainted it - £150.00 for the reddies.

It lasted about 2 years and now it is back. I think that I'll simply do the same and get it ground back, rust inhibiter, filled, painted.

It probably will only last another 2 years but if you start welding there is a risk that this will create rust in itself.

I would act sooner rather than later to save the wing and limit the cost and damage...

Really, it's £300 to cut out the rust, weld in the new panel, fill and spray door, panel and bumper, plus cost of panel (£110) * 2. I didn't think that was too unreasonable. What do you think it should cost?

The panel in question is http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...
