Afternoon all,

I'm in the market for a 5 in the next week or so, could anyone tell me how tax works on imports?
Or point me to a link if simpler? smile

Thanks,
J

Exactly the same as UK cars I think.

My import Roadster is 200 odd quid, just like any pre-2001 car with 1.6 or greater engine.

So they tax it on build date, not on import date or anything like that?

I'm just expecting our dear leader to have pulled some new trick to take more money off me smile

That I don't know I'm afraid - my car is a '94 and was imported in '97. Given that it was given a 94L plate though I would imagine it to be taxed on the original date of manufacture.

For the new rates based on emmissions...

Currently imports don't have any info so they are taxed at the standard rate -ie around £190, which was handy when I was running a 5 ltr V8 truck.

No doubt they'll get around to changing this to a tax on cc at some point.
