There are a few hundred NB-based coupes of one variety or another. In addition to these production models, Mazda created the TS concept car:

As far as I know, they then allowed Monocraft to produce a few cars with the same styling as the TS.

As for importing from Japan, I've brought the odd car or two over but I'd advise against it at the moment simply because of the terrible exchange rate. Wherever possible I'd also try to avoid sourcing a car from sites like tradecarview - not that there's anythign wrong with them but the cars are largely dealer stock which have already been through auction and been marked up accordingly. Better to buy direct from auction in my opinion.

I can't see it costing less than about £18,500 to get that particular MX-5 through customs at current rates and taxes!

Then you've got to find somewhere to keep it for 5 or 6 years while you pray the sva rules don't change (or stump up a few grand to create a model report).

Does look good though!

Or buy a written off Mk2 or obsure kitcar and use its documents.

Illegal but happens all the time with various cars.

Thats the problem when the gov't make up stupid rules, people just opt out of the process altogether.
