I am new to the MX5 scene, in fact I am not on the scene!
Bearing that in mind, I have seen a 1990 MX5, UK 1600 for sale for what seems a reasonable price.
The seller states that the it needs a new diff.
Can anyone help me regarding a price to replace it, and where would be best to get it done.
Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Mike

PS Is there an on-line buyers guide anywhere?

Diff looks expensive for a new one - http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product... - so the price better be very good. So many of them around: just buy one that works. smile

you can buy a 1.6 open diff for probably less than £50 in good nick - lots of people replace them with LSD's so they're easy enough to get hold of.

Of course you need a quote for the work from you're local spannerman to make a value judgement.

You might also wonder what how current owner has been driving the car for it to need a new diff...

If the diff is all that is wrong with it then it sounds to me like a stonking bargain.

Car - £400
Used diff - £50
Fitting - £100
MOT - £50

Sounds like a plan to me. Surely you could break the car and re-coup your £400 if it turned out to be dog?

Thats a good point.

2 x Front wings = ~£100
Engines got to be ~£250 and say £100 minimum for a gearbox.

You already have your money back and theres still the bonnet, boot, bumpers, seats etc
