Hello Everyone

Got my roadster this week!

'94 85K 1.8 Eunos. Lovely

Fitted new electricalo aerial mast, not and easy job, but all done, very satisfying watching my car's aerial going up and down

Engine pulls really nicely, feels good.

Problem I have is on slow pull aways from junctions, when turning about quarter lock there is a low speed judder/shudder from the front wheels, moreso on the right. It's less noticeable at speed and only there at quarter lock.

Any ideas? Wheel bearings? CV joint? Can't be driveshaft as that's at the back?

I'm not good at mechanical things, but can tinker a little.

Thanks in advance for your wisdom,

Craig

It sounds like front wheel bearings (no CV joints at the front on RWD cars). Jack the car up, grip each wheel and see if you can feel any movement. Also spin the wheel and see if it runs true.
One question although rather obvious, have you checked the wheel nuts are tight.

Torsen? I find mine will do this if I under-rev it from a minor junction turning left. If I razz it, it will glide out, tending to over-steer and even #11 painting.

either that or clutch shudder. I found after aggressive pull aways in other cars, they would shudder at the next gentle take off. a few clutch-riding starts would smooth it all better wink

Jacked it up, wheels stable when i try and rock them, and bolts were all tight.

The previous owner had a new clutch fitted about 500 miles ago.

The shudder only occurs now when the car is hot/ has been driven.

Could be clutch judder? would it feel like it's coming from the front wheels?

Is your car lowered/wearing large diameter wheels/could be fouling the wheelarch?

If anything it looks slightly high at the rear, almost leaning forward.

The wheels are aftermarket but not very big, and I've checked, they never touch the wheel arch at any degree of turn.

all transmission feelings will come from the rear wheels as the '5 is RWD. if things at the engine end were really violent, you could feel the front wheels transmitting it via the mountings and subframe, but at the same time, the rear wheels would transmit it aswell.

if the front wheels were scrubbing due to any offset other that 45 on the aftermarket wheels, that would feel through the steering wheel.

look at the page (5 i think) in this handling manual
