Hi,
In order to prepare my MX5 for sprint events I have to fit a timing strut and an ignition cut-off switch.

Can anyone offer me any advice about these mods to save me time/money/thinking ;-)

Cheers

Just as a heads-up & as it relates to other marques, it might be worth asking this question on 'General Motorsports'

Send a message to Kevham. He does sprint-racing in an MX-5.

They will do a genral check of the car. Normal points that are picked up are loss items or rubbing items eg battery not fixed down. Tyers must be listed in the blue book if not you may be put up a class. Max noise levels are aslo worth watching depending on the where you are going.

Checks that I can rember are.
Wheels checked for lossnes.
Steering checked.
Bonnet boot doors close ok.
Seat fixed down ok.
Seat belts are in good conditons (If harnes fitted are thay fitted correctly).
Exelirator cable in good condition.
Battery termins are identifide eg one red one black (I have in the past put red tape to do this).

My 1979 mini used to pass so dont worry to much. Just use common sence.

More cars used to brake down than failed inspection. Give the car a good run befor taking to the event.

I do sprints in one too. You don't need an ignition cut-off just a label to show where and which way the ignition switches off like this

The beam breaker is usually a home made affair. Mine mounts off the front no plate plinth like this

You also need to tape your negative battery cable with yellow tape.

Then you're ready to go......
