On hot days, it’s off the scale!!

I have a problem with my wife’s MX5.
On hot days, when the cars been standing (roof on), as soon as you pull away, in first, the speedo reads 60+mph. On the dual carriageway, it goes all the way round to 40 again!
On cold days, it’s fine.... normal.....
It’s a cable driven speedo.... any ideas?
