DTM and I are planning to change the clutch on my car (and his).

Mine is a 1.6 and IIRC his his a 1.8.

Symptons on my car are lots of slippage from a fast standing start.

What do we need to buy/replace? Just the clutch disc? Or should be looking at replacing associated parts at the same time?

Cheers,
Phill

Change the pressure plate & bearings while you are in there. It would be bad to replace the clutch plate and put everything back together only then to find it was actually a tired pressure plate causing the clutch to slip!

I've recently done the clutch on mine, so I'd say get a full 3-piece clutch kit (friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing), and don't forget to also replace the spigot bearing (fits in the centre of the flywheel) - it's only about a fiver from mx5 parts, and they can get quite loose (and noisy with age), so it's not worth ignoring it while you've got the box out...

Might be worth getting your heads under the cars before you start too - that way if there's any sign of stray oil it might be worth ordering a rear-main oil seal as a precaution while the box is out - again a 50p part, but that takes a lot of fitting, so might be best to order one if it looks like you might need it...

Oh - if it's still slipping with a new clutch, check the pedal height and lash adjustment - mine was slipping after replacement, and having set up the pedal height and lash it's now perfect...

As its a pain to remove the box I replaced both the gearbox seals and the rear engine main seal on my car but they aren't anything like 50p (unfortunately).

mines leaking oil but its the box, might order a new seal instead of fitting the 1.6 box , the clutch has to go as its just cheapo nasty.

on the clutch plate instead of springs there is rubber blocks and i swear its robbed all the feel out of the pedal , should never have put it back in ...
